Danielle Dygert

Mythologies operate in an individual’s mind and societies alike; they depict self-image, cross-cultural views and create potent tensions of changing societies and history.

Within large-scale oil paintings I unravel our histories, social issues, natural landscapes, and my own experiences in order to provoke dialogues surrounding cross-cultural tensions and individual perspectives. My paintings mix traditional portraiture and landscape compositions with new-age color palettes inspired by the technological revolution. This work is meant to inspire conversations about contemporary mythos, digital personas, intrapersonal relationships and socio-political landscapes by revisiting fables and symbolism traditionally used to describe heroism, infamy, freedom and success.
