Sarasota is a city located in Sarasota County on the southwestern coast of the state of Florida in the United States.
Its current official limits include Sarasota Bay and several barrier islands between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
These islands separating Sarasota Bay from the gulf near the city, known as keys, include Lido Key and Siesta Key,
which are famous worldwide for the quality of their sandy beaches.
Today the keys that are included in the boundary of Sarasota are Lido Key, St. Armands Key, Otter Key, Coon Key, Bird Key,
and portions of Longboat Key and Siesta Key. Previously, Siesta Key was named Sarasota Key. At one time, it and all of Longboat
Key were considered part of Sarasota and confusing contemporaneous references may be found discussing them.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Sarasota had a population of 52,488 in 2007.[1] In 1986 it became designated as a certified
local government. Sarasota is a principal city of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is the seat of Sarasota County.
ANSWER: s/ART/q
Contemporary art can be defined variously as art produced at this present point in time or art produced since World War II. The definition of the word contemporary would support the first view, but museums of contemporary art commonly define their collections as consisting of art produced since World War II.
s/ART/q is a dynamic, new, not-for-profit entity consisting of professional Sarasota artists who strive to present the community, the region, and visitors to the area with contemporary art events of the highest caliber.
Our mission is to provide collaborative meeting and working spaces for artists as well as quarterly group shows, open studio visits, and an ambitious schedule of monthly educational, outreach, and public service programs. This group of painters, sculptors, and photographers maintains a commitment to collaboration with other art groups, local businesses, and enthusiasts in order to advance the creative culture of Sarasota county and increase the standard of local visual art.
